    HG659b

    The white Huawei box Spark and Vodafone handed out for years. Very common in NZ. Also covers the HG659 and HG630B.

    Before you start

    • Some of these were locked by the provider that gave them out. Open Internet > Internet Settings: if there are no Edit, Delete or Add buttons, yours is locked and can't be changed. You'll need a different router.
    • The HG630B tops out around 100 Mbps, so it'll hold you to about Fibre speeds no matter which plan you're on.

    Sign-ins to try

    • Came from Spark

      admin / admin

    • Came from Vodafone

      Admin / VF-NZhg659, or @ followed by the last 8 digits of the serial number on the sticker

    • Neither of those work

    1. Plug it into your ONT

      Run an ethernet cable from the router's WAN port to the port on your ONT that we've set you up on. Power it on, then connect your laptop or phone to its WiFi.

    2. Open the router's settings

      In a browser, go to 192.168.1.1. If the router came from Spark, try 192.168.1.254 instead. Sign in with the details below. Forgotten them? Hold the Reset button on the back for about 10 seconds and it'll go back to factory defaults.

    3. Edit the internet connection

      Internet > Internet Settings, then find the profile with ETH_VID in the name and hit Edit

      This is the one that matters. If your router was on Spark before, this profile will be set to PPPoE. Changing it to DHCP is the fix.

    4. Save and wait

      Hit Save, then Apply. The router will probably restart. Give it a couple of minutes.

    5. Check you're online

      The WAN or Internet light on the front should go solid green. Load a website to be sure. If it doesn't come up, unplug the ONT and the router for 30 seconds, plug them back in, and check the VLAN ID is really 10.

    Um runs on VLAN 10 with DHCP. There's no username or password to enter anywhere. If your router isn't listed here, the settings on the main setup guide are all you need.
